Vistula River

The banks of Warsaw’s Vistula River tell a tale of two halves. To the west, you’ve got the cityscape of the historic old town merging into the skyscrapers that you’d expect from a modern capital. While the east bank is lined by a huge protected green space, with parks, wildlife and natural beaches. Taking a cruise along the river is the best way to appreciate both sides. Take your pick from options like sailing along at sunset with a Prosecco in hand, embracing tradition on a wooden ‘galar’ boat trip or going for a speedier motorboat option. If you prefer to stay on dry land, then you can walk or cycle along the beautifully designed boulevards that run along the riverfront from the Świętokrzyski Bridge toward the Old Town. There are plenty of points worth a better look at along the promenade, too, like the Copernicus Science Centre or the National Stadium. And, no riverside trip is complete without a selfie with Warsaw’s iconic mermaid statue, who, according to legend, stands ready to protect the city with her shield and sword.
