Kurzporträt Villasimius

With its easy-going seaside vibe and ravishing beaches, Villasimius is a favourite on Sardinia’s south-eastern coast. White sand, turquoise waters and rocky headlands shape this stretch of coast, much of which falls within the protected Capo Carbonara Marine Area.

It’s easy to explore the surrounding area from Villasimius, while the town itself has plenty of restaurants, cafés and shops to come back to after a day by the sea. Along the coast, beaches range from long sandy stretches to smaller coves tucked between granite rocks. Porto Giunco is backed by the Notteri lagoon, where pink flamingos can be spotted, while the waters around Capo Carbonara are home to seagrass meadows and plenty of marine life. Whether you spend the day swimming, snorkelling or heading out by boat, the sea is very much part of life in Villasimius.

Top three things to do in Villasimius

1. Spend the day at Porto Giunco
Lie back on the soft white sand and listen to the waves rolling onto the shore, or follow the path up the headland to the old tower. From here, you can look out over the bay and the Notteri lagoon, where pink flamingos can sometimes be spotted.

2. Explore Capo Carbonara Marine Area by boat
There’s just as much to see below the water as there is along the coast. The protected marine area around Capo Carbonara is home to rocky seabeds, seagrass meadows and a wide variety of fish. Join a snorkelling or diving trip to get a closer look, or take a boat tour around the headland and nearby islands, such as Isola dei Cavoli and Isola di Serpentara.

3. Explore the coast by boat
A boat trip is a great way to see more of the coastline around Villasimius. Routes can take you past places like Serpentara, Punta Molentis and Capo Boi, with some trips heading further along the coast towards Costa Rei. Depending on the route, you may have time to stop for a swim in a secluded cove or simply take in the views from the water.
