Kurzporträt Ksamil

Turquoise water, small offshore islands, and white-sand beaches shape Ksamil, one of southern Albania's best-known seaside resorts. Set on the Ionian coast near the Greek border, it combines clear, shallow water with a rugged coastline and easy access to the ancient ruins of Butrint. You can spend your time swimming between the islands, exploring the coast by kayak or boat, or heading inland to discover Albania's archaeological heritage. Back in town, seafood restaurants and beach bars keep things lively into the evening. Ksamil suits you if you want a beach break with plenty to explore beyond the sand.

1. Swim between Ksamil's islands

Ksamil's small islands sit just offshore, surrounded by clear Ionian water and accessible by boat or kayak. Spend the day moving between different coves, swimming and snorkelling in the shallow water, or simply finding a quieter stretch of coast away from the main beaches. A boat trip also gives you a different perspective of the rugged shoreline and its collection of small bays.

2. Explore ancient Butrint

Just south of Ksamil, the archaeological site of Butrint offers a striking contrast to the area's beaches. Walk among the remains of an ancient Greek and Roman city, including a theatre, forum, baths, and early Christian buildings, with the surrounding wetlands and woodland adding to the setting. It's an easy way to combine a morning of history with an afternoon back on the Ionian coast.

3. Enjoy the Albanian Riviera

Ksamil is a good base for exploring more of Albania's southern coastline. Head towards Sarandë for a lively waterfront and restaurants, or follow the coast to discover smaller beaches and traditional villages. Back in Ksamil, try grilled fish, mussels, prawns, and other seafood caught in the region, often paired with Albanian wine or a cold drink overlooking the Ionian Sea.
