Kurzporträt Kronplatz

Panoramic Dolomite views, extensive ski slopes, and high-altitude trails make Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) one of South Tyrol’s best-known mountain destinations. Rising above the Puster Valley, this mountain offers year-round outdoor activities, from winter skiing and snowboarding to summer hiking and mountain biking. You can take a cable car to the summit, admire views stretching across the Dolomites and the surrounding Alps, or visit its distinctive mountain museums. With resorts such as Brunico, San Vigilio di Marebbe, and Valdaora nearby, Kronplatz is an excellent base for combining mountain adventures with South Tyrolean food and culture.

1. Ski across Kronplatz’s slopes

In winter, Kronplatz is a major part of the Dolomiti Superski network, with a wide range of groomed runs for different experience levels. Modern lifts connect the summit with the surrounding villages, while long descents lead back towards the valley. You can also explore dedicated areas for snowboarding and enjoy mountain huts serving warming local dishes between runs.

2. Take in the views from the summit

Ride a cable car to the summit, where panoramic views open across the Dolomites and the surrounding Alpine landscape. At the top, visit the Messner Mountain Museum Corones, designed by architect Zaha Hadid and dedicated to traditional mountaineering, or explore LUMEN, a museum focused on mountain photography. The summit’s walking paths are also worth exploring in summer, when the snow gives way to alpine grasslands.

3. Explore the mountain in summer

When winter ends, Kronplatz becomes a playground for hikers and mountain bikers. Follow trails across the slopes, enjoy the views from high-altitude paths, or try the area’s downhill biking routes. The surrounding Puster Valley offers more opportunities for cycling and walking, while nearby villages provide a chance to sample South Tyrolean specialities such as canederli dumplings, speck, and apple strudel.
