Kurzporträt Fresno

Nestled in the heart of California and surrounded by mountain ranges and forest, Fresno is something special. It’s the only Californian city surrounded by three national parks – Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia just 90 minutes’ drive away. With panoramic views, natural wonders and plenty of exciting attractions, it packs quite the punch.

Locals are proud of the city, and once you’re there it’s easy to see why. The place is known for its agricultural bounty and boasts approximately 300 days of sunshine a year. Home to many state-of-the-art sporting and meeting venues, its vibrant arts scene is also worth checking out.

Calling all foodies – Fresno is a culinary wonderland, with freshly made farm-to-table cuisine and a selection of international eateries. A treat for all the senses.

Top three things to do in Fresno

Meet the animals at Fresno Chaffee Zoo

Home to over 200 animal species, this zoo is like no other. You can get up close to African lions, giraffes and elephants, as well as more exotic animals like the Malayan tiger, the red panda and the Komodo dragon. With a range of exhibits, including African Adventure, Sea Lion Cove and Valley Farm, there is something for everyone.

Immerse yourself in culture at the city’s museums

Fresno is drenched in culture, which is reflected at the city’s many museums. The Meux Home Museum offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of Fresno’s early settlers, while Fresno Art Museum features contemporary art and rotating exhibitions. History buffs can take a tour around the Victorian era mansion of Kearney Mansion Museum, discovering the place’s rich past.

Explore Forestiere Underground Gardens

Open March-November, this underground labyrinth of rooms, courtyards and grottos is seriously unique. It was hand-carved by Baldassare Forestiere, who spent more than 40 years digging and shaping the subterranean complex to create a cool hideaway from the soaring summer temperatures. But this is far from a collection of dark caves. The subterranean home is complete with sky-lit rooms, a chapel and even a fishing pond.
