Kurzporträt Bahamas

The Bahamas – an archipelago made of over 700 islands – is a beach-hopping paradise boasting turquoise waters around the clock. Visit Blue Lagoon Island for a swim with dolphins, admire pink shorelines, or explore the cinematic sands of Golden Beach – showcased in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. And who could resist the unique charm of mingling with the island's famous pigs?

If nature is your jam, there are over fourteen national parks and unparalleled diving sites teeming with vibrant corals and fish. Beyond the shores, Nassau is the island’s buzzing capital which offers a glimpse into colonial history and cultural heritage. Dive into colourful festivals like Junkanoo and Eleuthera’s Pineapple Festival in Eleuthera. For a true taste of the Bahamas – make sure to stop at John Watling’s Distillery to savour the island’s signature rum.

Top three things to do in the Bahamas

1. Explore the colourful capital of Nassau
The Bahamian capital buzzes with culture, rhythm and vibrant nightlife. Delve into its colonial past at Fort Charlotte and climb the 66 steps of Queen’s Staircase at Fort Fincastle panoramic views from the top are a dream. Immerse yourselves in tales of piracy at the old town’s interactive Pirate Museum and bargain for Bahamian handicrafts at the local Straw Market.

2. Relax at the beach and hang out with pigs
With so many islands in its repertoire, it’s hard to pick the Bahamas’ best beach – especially with some of the weird and wonderful options on offer. Swim with the island’s famous pigs at Big Major Cay, sunbathe on a salmon-coloured shore at Pink Sands Beach or head to Paradise Island’s Cabbage Beach for long stretches of white sand and paradise.

3. Venture into Lucayan National Park
Located in Grand Bahama, this park is home to one of the world's longest underwater cave systems. Don't leave without exploring Ben's Cave and Burial Mound Cave for an underground adventure. Weave through pineland forests and mangroves on walking trails and boardwalks to arrive at Gold Rock Beach. It’s a bird hotspot too – so remember to look up!
