Kurzporträt Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda is an irresistible beach destination that boasts a different stretch of water for each day of the year. Though, there’s more to the island than what lies at its edges. As a former British colony located in the Eastern Caribbean, the island has some interesting history that you can learn about at different museums, the UNESCO Nelson’s Dockyard and sugar plantations. Explore the limestone caves, donkey sanctuaries and taste the delicious local cuisine. You’ll come home with a golden tan and feel as happy as a rum punch.

Top three things to do in Antigua and Barbuda

1. Enjoy a splash at one of the beaches

The blue waters of the island are some of the finest you’ll ever see. With over 365 stretches of beach and coves, visitors are spoilt for choice. Don’t miss out on Half Moon Bay, 17 Mile Beach (with heavenly pink-tinged sands) and Dickenson Bay in particular. For more aquatic fun, head to Stingray City to paddle, swim or snorkel with the friendly creatures.

2. Discover the green part of the island

Head into the island’s rainforest scenery at the Wallings Nature Reserve and climb up Signal Hill for some gorgeous panoramas of the island. There’s even a zip wire for adrenaline junkies. Shirley Heights is a must-see viewpoint where you can admire the breathtaking rock formation of the Pillars of Hercules or maybe catch a Caribbean sunset.

3. Step into the tropical city of St Johns

It’s hard not to fall in love with the capital city and cruise ship port of the island with its colourful Caribbean cottages and market stalls piled high with tropical fruits and flowers. Head to Redcliffe Quay and wander around art galleries, pottery and trinket shops; and have a chat with the Antigua Islanders.
